Break Out the Brooms

First of all, Southern Miss to the top!!! What an excellent weekend for baseball. The weather for Sunday's game was absolutely perfect. However, I am ready for things to warm up, where some of us won't have to dress like eskimos to make it through the game. Sorry Mrs. Cindy.. I had to do it.
Yesterday's game was very exciting. Our rally started early with three runs coming in the first inning. I was really impressed by the play of Bo Davis this weekend. He has really improved over the off season. I believe we have one of the best 1, 2, 3, 4 hitters in America. Davis, Dozier, Sutton, and either Winstead or Maxie....Not to take anything from the rest of the team, but I believe Sutton will lead the team in RBI's and probably batting average.
Lipscomb would not go away however, they rallied to move ahead 4-3 in the 3rd inning with back-to-back homeruns.
After making my way back home I was informed by my roomate that Maxie went 4-5 yesterday. I really had no clue that he such a great day. He was a silent killer in the game. However, the hero of the game was probably Trey Cuevas. After Trey Sutton was intentionally walked, the crowd was really getting fired up. I'm sure someone in the dugout told Catfish to take advantage to the disrespect that the pitcher just showed him, by pitching around Sutton.
Of course, you probably know what happened next....Cuevas....first pitch...long homerun over center-field wall to put the good guys up 8-5.

However, Lipscomb was being a little scrappy on Sunday and simply would not go away. They rallied to tie the game in the top of the 8th. Colin Cargilll shutdown Lipscomb in the top of the ninth and the Eagles would not stop fighting. Keith Winstead came in and had a walk-off hit to win the game. It was fantastic.

I encourage everyone to get out to the Pete and watch a game.. become a huge Southern Miss fan and stick around to the fall and watch Larry Fedora and his boys put on a clinic to the rest of Conference USA.

I am looking forward till tomorrow where the Eagles are back in action at the Pete against UL Monroe...first pitch: 6:30. BE THERE!!!!
I'm sure some of us will need our eskimo suit, I've heard that it will be rather cold Tuesday Night.. Bundle up and let's see the Eagles move to 4-0.
I hope everyone is enjoying the blog.. I am really enjoying doing it, however, I really never thought that it was for me...

Way To Go...2-0

Well, I'm back from a chilly afternoon at Pete Taylor. I am really not liking this weather. I have always enjoyed the days whenever I can come out to the ballpark with shorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops and be comfortable. Well, I have to say that I was a little nervous during the first 5 no hit innings by Lipscomb. However, Michael Ewing broke through in the bottom of the 5th with a hit to lead off the inning. We rallied and moved ahead 4-3. From here our relievers came in and saved the day. Ballinger.. from my hometown of Hurley, and East Central High School, my alma mater, pitched through the top of the ninth. Tyler Conn, from Ocean Springs came in and struck out the side in the top of the 9th to win the game, 6-3.
I have been well informed by my girlfriend, Lisa Knight, that I need to mention her in this blog...Or I will be in trouble, so.... without further ado.. I am without a doubt dating the greatest girl ever. We have been together for 3 1/2 years this March. She loves sports, USM and me...what more could you ask for?? Well, hopefully she will find this post adequate. However, I do mean every word of it.

I, of course plan on going tomorrow to hopefully pull out the sweep. Southern Miss to the top.. and it looks like the guys basketball team will win in Tulane, final score: 70-59 the Good Guys

Till Next Time,

You Can't Win Them All Unless You Win The First One

Well, I just got back to my humble abode from Pete Taylor Park. Man, it feels good for it to be baseball season again. I love the feeling of sitting at the Pete watching the Eagles play baseball. We started out strong, with two hits from Bo Davis and Brian Dozier. Sutton advanced the runners on a fielder's choice and Winstead picked up his first RBI of the season.

I was wondering who this new baseball team was that got consecutive hits. Not to bash my team, but last season was frustrating at times. Pitching was what it was expected to be. Barry Bowden came out strong with two shutout innings to start the game. Wade Weathers came in a looked spectacular. He struck out the side in the 8th, I believe and Tyler Conn came in and picked up the save.

Overall, the game went well, we slowed down in after the 3rd inning, however our defense was sharp with Carson's home-run saving catch. That was exceptional!!! Also, the pitching was excellent. We have to improve on hitting to compete in the C-USA.

I took some pictures at the game. I hope you guys Enjoy Them.... Especially the Out-of-town Eagle Fans...
(For some reason, BLOGGER isn't letting me upload photos, I'll try to put them up in another Slideshow at the bottom of the page. Remember, click the picture for a larger image. The slideshow will be up soon!!!)

Its About Time

Yes, it is that time again. Spring, flowers, warmer weather, and probably my favorite of the list: Southern Miss Baseball. It simply does not get any better than a weekend series at Pete Taylor Park. Also, I know it is baseball season whenever food begins to taste bad Saturday afternoons of a weekend series. This bad taste is a result of the inner mouth being ruined from my favorite baseball accessory.........DAVID SUNFLOWER SEEDS.
When it comes to sunflower seeds and something to eat during a baseball game, David Sunflower Seeds trumps its competitors. I probably will suffer from mild insomnia tonight, because the butterfly are starting to stir.... First pitch, Pete Taylor Park..BE THERE!!!

I have a good feeling this year about our team. I am hoping we do something with our offense. I've never been more frustrated with a baseball team than last season with a runner on third and one out. I am not one to bash my team, who I will support till the day I die. However, we have to hit the ball, especially in clutch situations to be effective in college baseball.

I encourage everyone who reads this to come to Pete Taylor Park this weekend and support your Eagles. If you are not an Eagle, I challenge you to come to Hattiesburg, walk on campus, visit multiple games... basketball, baseball, football. Look at the fans, get involved, support the Eagles and you will see how great it is to be a Golden Eagle.

Rain or shine, I'll be there at Pete Taylor Park, cheering on my Eagles.

Till Next Time,

Patrick L.
